What is Rattan?
Rattan is a general term for more than 600 species of vine-like palms that are native to tropical areas of Africa, Asia and Australasia. Most readily found in Indonesia, rattan is easy to harvest and even easier to transport.
It is commonly used to make furniture because it is lightweight, durable and relatively flexible. When compared pound for pound, rattan is stronger than steel. Just like other types of wood, rattan furniture looks beautiful painted and stained, which makes it available in many colors. Due to its flexible nature, rattan can be crafted into many different styles. Wicker Paradise carries a wide range of rattan furniture ideal for both indoor and outdoor living areas such as the deck, porch, patio, sunroom or garden. When left in its 1.5"-2.5" diameter, the pole of the rattan is used to form the frame of rattan furniture. The pole of the rattan can also be cut into smaller strands and woven into wicker rattan furniture.
